No deposit poker bonuses?

I’ve been looking around at the no deposit bonuses on offer from various poker sites. Most of them seemed a little too good to believe (e.g. $100 free with no deposit?) and upon looking into it they all mentioned a requirement of 1000 player points to gain the full bonus or something along those lines. Do you have to have already earned a large number of player points before the free cash comes through, or do you just have to earn them before you cash the money out, or earn it all? Because surely it isn’t really a no deposit bonus if you have to earn the player points to get it, when you can only earn those points from playing with real money and therefore making a deposit?
